Unit 4 Colour * Value
Students in year 4 looked at colour blending by
using colours that sit next to each other on the colour wheel. For the final
project piece, classes used warm colours to create a Savannah Sunset (red,
pink, orange, yellow). To finish off student used stencils to trace on animal
and tree formations. They blocked in these images with black marker to create a
sunset silhouette effect.
Preparing our pages for stenciling
Students learned about value. Value
is going from light to dark with any colour. If you add white to a colour you
get lighter which is called a tint. If you add black to a colour you get a darker
which is called a shade. Students created a value scale to make it look like
sunlight streaming into the ocean or to represent the light from the moon. To
finish adding effect to the artwork students created silhouettes. One group
made animals of the sea to create the sun and ocean theme, the other group
made leafless branch to create the eerie night theme.
